saw another FANTASTIC film this weekend...Wong Kar Wai's HAPPY TOGETHER. Its about 2 GAY asian dudes who go to Argentina to try to work out their relationship problems. The cinematography is unparrelleled. The movie is heartbreaking and beautiful and functions as MUCH more than a gay breakup movie. Its also clearly a major influence on LOST IN TRANSLATION.
now i'm working on Godard's MASCULINE FEMININE. halfway through and its blowing me away.

HAPPY TOGETHER is one of my favorite films. There's something about the way that Won Kar Wai communicates the irretrievable passage of time and all the things you lose with time that made me cry and cry after I saw, and I'm really not the type for that kind of reaction.
